While Grandma and Grandpa were here we all managed to get away for a weekend, despite any other business or chaos ; ). We visited an old favorite (Part I pics, from 2006, are at the end of the post) and had a nice time showing some old and new Favorites around. XO
Cadaqués -
It was sunny.
The streets were beautiful.
Picturesque European waterfront -- plus a cute kid and her mommy.
Someone loves the camera ...
... and the camera loves her.
Gotta get in a silly shot.
Peratallada -
We stayed in the same "rural tourism" farmhouse as we did 6 years ago. It was as lovely as we'd remembered and totally new with the kids.
"Kikiriki!"
They LOVED standing at the window in the morning and calling back and forth with the roosters.
Daddy about to enter after packing up the car in his "La Roja" t-shirt. Totally appropriate since Spain kicked butt in the Eurocup later that day!
Licking pretend "chupa-chups."
Outside our flat in the greater house -- precious.
The barn -- so much fun for kids of all ages (er, cough-cough, Grandpa -- okay, Mommy too).
Lovely girl, chow time for the cows behind. From what we could tell, it was always chow time.
Now, that's a proper farmhouse door!
The village of Peratallada at a distance.
Yes, those are giant bales of hay behind our lovely daughter.
The farm (and Grandpa) at a distance.
Part I: James and I got away for a long weekend during the winter months when were lived here in ´06. It is one of the trips we remember most fondly of all that we've taken.
From the same vantage point as the "Peretallada at a distance" picture taken above, just a slight turn.
The village at sunset.
Cadaqués by day.
It was much colder ...
Windier ...
Rainier ...
Yet, so amazing!
Yes, definitely amazing.
I'm sure we'll be back, probably to the same little farmhouse. We'll probably wander the same little streets, and it will probably feel like the same sweet respite as it did the first two times. It will also probably be as equally different and new as each of the first two times. Well, I suppose that could be said about a lot of things.
Talk soon!

"Open Doors" Day & Celebration
The schools around here tend to go all out for the end of the year, the celebrations are quite something. We were of course, incredibly excited to attend, the kids had been practicing their sweet songs and dances around the house all week. It was a great time all around!
It was such an impressive show. Oh, and all those little costumes were a collaborative effort between students and teachers. We left beaming and headed off for a special treat with friends! We're definitely looking forward to next year!
Entering the "big kids" building.
Getting their dance on!
Seriously, they're two and they followed super-duper cute choreography and sang at the same time!
What a bunch of sweet little owls, especially the last one you can see on the right!
Flit, flutter, fly!
And stage exit, looking pretty self satisfied.
All of the nursery school kiddos came back up for the final number. Aine is being escorted up by her teacher (and a current love of her life).
Hmmm...
After the show ... mischievous and delightfully playful.

Font de la Budellera - More Adventures in Parc de Collserola
Like many of our Barcelonais counterparts we cite one of the many great things about living in this city as being sandwiched between ´montaña y mar´ -- between the mountains and the sea. Also, like many others who live here, we've become regular patrons of Collserola (see previous posts). We pack a pica-picnic, take a short bus and train ride, and set out on what usually turns out to be a fantastic mid-morning adventure. We'd kept to the same path up until a couple of weeks ago--getting the kids used to their hiking legs..but we finally decided to try something different. We sure are glad we did. What a wonder we discovered!
The amazing wisteria that vines all over, thanks to the Font (natural fountain). The color and fragrance were both incredibly vibrant and wonderful.
The mountains behind.
Font de la Buddellera -- tapped. How'd that cute kid get in there ; )?
Posed adorableness ...
... and silliness.
And just because I love these photos for some reason:
Here are my beauties in the morning before we headed out.
And this one tells a great story ... it's one of those that really has a thousand words. I hope you can think of at least a few.
Visit again soon!
We love you.

We Love Our Little School
We feel so fortunate to have found an absolute gem of a school -- we'd be hard pressed to find a better school anywhere and, the added benefit to us, the girls are already speaking Catalan and Spanish. Aoife is quite the little linguist; any native speaker who gets the chance to interact with her can hardly believe her progress, and neither can we! Aine is already able to tell her teachers what she's done over the weekend and sing countless songs. We are so excited!
Part of what is absolutely wonderful about our school is the sense of community. There is always something going on in which everyone has the opportunity to participate: children, teachers, auxiliary teachers, parents and other staff all! Here´s a bit of the fun and wonder!
The girls together, post parade.
This is the first and only time Aoife has EVER let anyone come near her with face paint. The fact that she let her teacher give her both blue-flushed cheeks and glasses speaks volumes for both that magical woman and this school!
During carnival week the girls got to participate in different fun, themed days. This was both Pajama and Crazy Hair Day! Yes, she's that cute!
Three tails for little sissy.
A couple of sweethearts all ready to head of to school.
Aine from the back.| Aoife from the back. |
There are other less elaborate but equally meaningful activities that get sprinkled through the year. There are a couple picture below ... and a couple more to come ...
Aoife got a wonderfully sweet little book sent home one afternoon which she was to share with the family and then make an illustration of what she thought the main ideas were. It was a little challenging reading such a long story in Catalan, but Daddy translated into Spanish to make sure that everyone (ummm, Mommy) would catch everything. (I must admit, my Catalan is coming along pretty nicely too, my comprehension at any rate.) Anyway, Aoife's illustration is above. She totally got the central ideas, and it's pretty stinking cute too!
The book and instructions.
The climax of the story.
The really cool thing is that each student gets to bring the book home, complete their drawing, send it back to school and then it becomes a sort of quilt at the end of the year when students revisit the book and put them together. So lovely!
Aoife´s class also has a mascot, Piu-Piu. She got to bring him home one weekend and take care of him.
Aoife, Piu-Piu and her Vella Quaresma (another fun lovely experience).
More fun at the park ... with Piu-Piu ... Yay!
In the coming weeks Aine will get to be Student of the Week -- la Protaganista -- and the entire school will have their end of year, "open-doors" party. We'll look forward to sharing some of that, too.
We miss you!
XO
